IMPORTANT:
Screws must penetrate into wall
studs for maximum security.

For swing-open
mounting:
First, mount locking channel on right hand side of window: Drill
5/32" or 11/64" hole 3" deep for top screw only. Hang
channel loosely on top screw, drill remaining holes and mount.
Next, hang right side of bars in locking channel. Hold hinge channel
against left side of window, make sure guard is level, mark and
drill top hole. Insert screw, drill remaining holes and drive
screws. |
For fixed mounting,
non-opening:
Hold bars in position, mark top hole
in hinge channel and drill 5/32" or 11/64" hole 3"
deep. Insert screw, level bars and drill one hole through top of
fixed channel. Drill remaining holes and drive screws.

Note: 3"
screws in this package are "unhardened" to allow drilling
out cross-slots in Phillips heads after installation to make
tamper-resistant. Extra care must be taken in driving these screws
to prevent driver from spinning and mutilating screw. Make sure
driver tip is in good condition and press firmly while driving.
Lubricate screws with soap for easier driving.
To remove guard later drill deeper into screws, removing heads.
After removing guard, clamp screw shanks in reversible drill and
back out.

Installation
Tips
Surface
Mount or Recess Mount? |
|

|
Screws
must project into wall studs for maximum security.
In most cases, surface mounted Burglar Bars are easier to install
because the screws are easier to drive. Surface mounting also makes
screws more difficult to work on from outside the house by a
potential intruder who might break the window and attempt to remove
the screws.

|

|
How
to make screws tamper resistant:
Optional: After installation drill out Phillips cross slots in each
screw to make tamper resistant. To remove bars later, drill deeper
into screws, removing heads. After removing bars, clamp screw shanks
in reversible drill and back out. |

Easy
way to mount on concrete walls:
|
|

For easier mounting on concrete or
concrete block walls,
2" X 4" lumber can be bonded to wall alongside
windows with high grade construction adhesive.
Bars then can easily mount on 2" X 4"s.
